2nd KCA International Salon: KCA 2021

2nd KCA International Salon: KCA 2021 is organised by Kolkata Creative Art, a photography club of the photo enthusiasts from the South-Western region of Kolkata, India. This international salon is approved by Photographic Society of America (PSA 2021-1038), Fédération Internationale de l’Art Photographique (FIAP/2021/033), and Federation of Indian Photography (2020/FIP/176/2021). 2nd KCA International Salon 2021 is managed and digitally hosted by Pixel Clash, a Photography Salon Software.

Established in 2010, Kolkata Photo Art is registered under registered under the West Bengal Societies Registration Act, and is a corporate member of Federation of Indian Photography (FIP). KCA is engaged in several photography related events like photo outing, photography discussion, evaluation, organising salons and circuits etc. All the members of Kolkata Creative Art are engaged in multiple level activities like participating in salons and circuits, publishing photography related articles in journals and magazines, promoting the arts of photography on social media like Facebook, Instagram, and Flickr.

As per today’s record, there are 15 active members in the club that has organised 8 salons. 5,640 acceptances have been received by the members in different salons and circuits worldwide. Among these acceptances, 29 distinctions have been conferred and 428 awards have been won by the members.

2nd KCA International Salon 2021 is an endeavour of Kolkata Creative Art for the promotion of photography virtually in the context of the present time of pandemic and social distancing. The salon closes its entries on 20 January 2021 and judging of all the sections is done on 26 January 2021. Notification over mail and web is released on 2 February 2021. Awards and PDF catalogue will be despatched from the side of the organisers by 15 March 2021. Exhibition and digital exhibition of the photographs will take place from 3 April to 5 April. This international level photography salon is based on four sections namely Open Monochrome (PIDM), Open Colour (PIDC), Nature (ND) and Photo Travel (PTD).

Panel of Jury

2nd KCA International Salon: KCA 2021 forms unique judging panels in different sections. In the Open Monochrome section, the judging is done by Parth Sarathi Sarkar (EFIAP,ARPS), Dr. Debdas Bhunia (EFIAP,FFIP), Swapan Mukherjee (EFIAP, FFIP). In the Open Colour section, the judging panel features Rajdeep Biswas (GMPSA, EFIAP, FFIP), Swapan Mukherjee (EFIAP, FFIP), and Parth Sarathi Sarkar (EFIAP, ARPS). In the Nature section, the judging is done by Swapan Mukherjee (EFIAP, FFIP, Hon MFIP), Dr. Debdas Bhunia (EFIAP, FFIP), and Rajdeep Biswas (GMPSA, EFIAP, FFIP). In the Photo Travel section, Dr. Debdas Bhunia (EFIAP, FFIP, Hon MFIP), Rajdeep Biswas (GMPSA, EFIAP, FFIP), Partha Sarathi Sarkar(EFIAP, ARPS) play the roles of judges.

Result

The rate of acceptances in Open Monochrome (PIDM), Open Colour (PIDC), Nature (ND) and Photo Travel (PTD) sections are 24.08%, 24.50%, 24.93%, and 24.36% respectively. The notable awards in all the sections are as following:

JAN-THOMAS STAKE from Sweden receives FIAP Gold for the image WOMAN AND CHILD. MICHAEL STRAPEC from Slovakia receives PSA Gold for the image VILLAGE OF FROZEN DREAMS. PETER GENNARD from England receives FIP Gold for the image IMPOVERISHED FAMILY. Three KCA Gold awards are won by TERRY RAILLEY from Scotland for STUDY, RAUL VILLALBA from Argentina for RESIDENTS OF DARK CITY, and HANSA TANGMANPOOWADOL from Thailand for SPIRIT OF WATER II.

Open Colour

MICHAEL STRAPEC from Slovakia receives FIAP Gold for the image AUTUMN BREEZE IN THE TREES. PETER SIVITER from England receives PSA Gold for the image THE EXOCIST. PETER GENNARD from England receives FIP Gold for the image DESPERATE TIMES. Three KCA Gold awards are won by ALEXANDER HOCHHAUS from Germany for CINDERELLA, ERIC TKINDT from Belgium for WHEELCHAIRTENNIS 01, and HERDIS HALVAS-NIELSEN from Germany for TWO ARABIANS.

Nature

SANDRA GARIP from Dominican Republic receives FIAP Gold for the image GRAN SALTO. BOB DEVINE from England receives PSA Gold for the image ELEPHANT DOMINANCE. KAREN SMALLEY from England receives FIP Gold for the image MORNING STROLL MOUNT KILIMANJARO. KCA awards in this section are received by ABHIJEET KUMAR BANERJEE from India for RHINO MATING 2, SUDHIR GAIKWAD from India for IN THE JAWS OF DEATH, and GERARD MOREL from France for A LA PECHE 2.

Photo Travel

HUGH OCONNOR from the Republic of Ireland receives FIAP Gold for the image JACOBITE EXPRESS. MARTINA VASSELIN Chile receives PSA Gold for the image 1 – ADMIRING THE BEAUTY OF NATURE. JACKY MARTIN from France receives FIP Gold for the image HAMNOYA. The KCA awards recipients in this section are SAMIR SARKAR from India for MACHU PICCHU INCA CIVILISATION, ZELJKO CAR from Croatia for KAPADOKYA, and FEDAI COSKUN from Turkey for COLOSSEUM ROME.

Other Awards

SUBRATA BYSACK has bagged the FIAP Best Author (SLBP) Award as well as the Best Indian Entrant Award (overall). SHEILA VERGHIS has received the award as the Best India Woman Entrant (overall). Best Indian Entrant Award in Photo Travel Section has been conferred to SAMIR SARKAR. PLAAPA has received the 1st Best Club Award Trophy and LENS AND LIFE OF DUMDUM has received the 2nd Best Club Award Trophy.

I have used this software while judging Saints in Need salon in July 2020. Its one of the most user friendly software, I have used in Indian salons. As the Saints in Need is a charitable salon , Sri Raju Sutradhar provided entire software support free of cost. My heart felt thanks to him and his team for this benevolent work. It is my first judging experience with Pixel Clash software and off course the experience is awesome. It is fast and enriched with features which are mostly required by a jury member. Uploading, payment updates and judging are completely hassel free. No problem reported so far. After completing the marking juror can see the thumbnails with given marks which is a much required feature in my opinion. Mr. Sutradhar is very courteous and always ready to extend the support regarding software. I highly recommend Pixel Clash software for salon/circuit management.( Disclaimer: I am in no way related to Pixel Clash or with Mr. Raju Sutradhar neither I have any interest with it. )

The software used for Online judging in Saints in Need 2020 by Pixel Clash was an excellent one. It was so smooth and fast, without any problem. The second round was even more enjoyable with a particular facility called 'Review marks with thumbnail' through which it was possible to review the images in the order of scores given by me, and also providing a scope of modification at that stage. The overall judging experience using this software was highly enjoyable.
