Chennai International Salon 2021

Chennai International Salon 2021 is an initiative of India-based photography club Diyasha in order to connect emerging talents of photography globally. The salon is based on two sections that are Open Color and Open Monochrome. This international-level photography event is recognised by the Photography Society of America (PSA No: 2021 – 1187) and powered by Pixel Clash, a photography contest software.

Diyasha is a Chennai-based photography club having a number of enthusiastic budding and professional photographers across India as members. Diyasha organises several photography-related events like national and international level salons and circuits, photo tours, workshops, etc. Otherwise, the club collaborates with other clubs for such activities. The club also helps the photographers and photography clubs by making photography-related merchandise for them. Chennai International Salon 2021 is one of the initiatives of Diyasha to connect talented photographers virtually during this time of the pandemic.

The submission of entries for Chennai International Salon 2021 closes on 8 April 2021. Judging of all the sections are conducted from 15 – 19 April 2021. Notification of awards and acceptances is sent over web and mail on 26 April 2021. The judging panel of the salon features experts of photography such as Dr Anirban Banerjee, Dr Shourjendra Datta, AFIAP, EFIP, EPSA, and Dr Sudhir Gaikwad, AFIP.

Chennai International Salon 2021 offers 1 Best Club Award and 2 Special Awards for the Best Clubs/Groups. Otherwise, there are 2 PSA Gold, 4 Club Gold, 2 Club Silver8 Club Bronze, 8 Jury Choice Medal, 10 Merit Medal, and 2 Chairman Choice Medal.

The acceptance list of Chennai International Salon 2021 includes brilliant photographs from every continent of this world. The acceptance list includes photographers from Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, China, Chili, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, England, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Malaysia, Malta, New Zealand, Northern Ireland, Oman, Poland, Romania, Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, Scotland, Serbia, Singapore, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, Turkey, USA, and Vietnam.

Indian photography club India International Group (IIG) has received the 1st Best Club/Best Group Award in Chennai International Salon 2021. On the other hand, New View Photography Club of Saudi Arabia has been awarded as the 2nd Best Club/Group. The most notable awards in different sections are following:

Open Monochrome

In the Open Monochrome section, PSA Gold has been awarded to Thai photographer Hansa Tangmanpoowadol for his spectacular photograph WITH MY DREAMS. German Photographer Anke Berger has received Club Gold for the image ZEBRAKAMPF. Another Club Gold award has been received by Saudi Arabian photographer Amani Alqahtani for the photo LIWA DUNES. German Photographer Alexander Hocchaus receives Club Silver award for the photo EXPECTANT MOTHER. Indian photographer Asim Kumar Chaudhury’s photograph TOWARDS DESTINATION IN RAIN has won the Club Bronze medal. Other 3 Club Bronze Medal winning photographs are LASSO A HORSE (by Jiangchuan Tong from China), HIT 2 (by Arnaldo Paulo Che from Hong Kong), MAMI SATO JUMPS INTO THE LEAD (by David Keel from England), and GELANGWEILT (by Christian Scholz from Germany).

Open Colour

In the Open Colour section, Sally Leung from Hong Kong wins the prestigious PSA Gold medal for the excellent photographic art THE PHONEIX MATCH. Club Gold award in this section has been received by Polish photographer for the photograph COVID 19 TIME IMPORTANT. The second Club Gold medal has been received by Ka Yi Winnie Tse from Hong Kong for the photograph WILDEBEEST CROSSING-1. David Keel from England receives Club Silver for the photograph TOUGH GUYS THROUGH THE FLAMES. 4 Club Bronze awards receiving photographs in this section are MASK 1 (by Arnaldo Paulo Che from Hong Kong), THE MOMENT OF LIGHT (by Yomn Almonla from Saudi Arabia), ESFUERZO (by Juan Antonio Unzurrunzaga Posada from Spain), and DEPARTURE AND ARRIVAL (by Amani Alqahtani from Saudi Arabia).

I have used this software while judging Saints in Need salon in July 2020. Its one of the most user friendly software, I have used in Indian salons. As the Saints in Need is a charitable salon , Sri Raju Sutradhar provided entire software support free of cost. My heart felt thanks to him and his team for this benevolent work. It is my first judging experience with Pixel Clash software and off course the experience is awesome. It is fast and enriched with features which are mostly required by a jury member. Uploading, payment updates and judging are completely hassel free. No problem reported so far. After completing the marking juror can see the thumbnails with given marks which is a much required feature in my opinion. Mr. Sutradhar is very courteous and always ready to extend the support regarding software. I highly recommend Pixel Clash software for salon/circuit management.( Disclaimer: I am in no way related to Pixel Clash or with Mr. Raju Sutradhar neither I have any interest with it. )

The software used for Online judging in Saints in Need 2020 by Pixel Clash was an excellent one. It was so smooth and fast, without any problem. The second round was even more enjoyable with a particular facility called 'Review marks with thumbnail' through which it was possible to review the images in the order of scores given by me, and also providing a scope of modification at that stage. The overall judging experience using this software was highly enjoyable.
